Who's really writing the cheques
Gomez mixes passive investing with founding her own companies. Her clearest outside investment is a strategic stake in delivery startup Gopuff; her highest-profile ventures, Wondermind and Rare Beauty, are businesses she co-founded.

Gomez is an owner-operator far more than a startup picker. Almost all of her business value sits in Rare Beauty, the cosmetics brand she launched through Sephora in September 2020 and still controls; Bloomberg put her stake at about 51% when it added her to its billionaires index in 2024, and Fortune valued the brand at roughly $2.7 billion in October 2025. Mental health is the consistent thread rather than a sector thesis: Rare Beauty pledges 1% of sales to its Rare Impact Fund, and she co-founded Wondermind with her mother Mandy Teefey and Newsette founder Daniella Pierson. That second venture has gone badly, running out of cash in 2025, laying off most of its staff and later facing a landlord suit over unpaid rent. Her outside investing record is short and mostly undisclosed: a strategic stake in Gopuff, an ownership share in Serendipity Brands, and a small 2011 angel cheque into Postcard on the Run. Even her headline number is contested, with Forbes valuing her at around $700 million against Bloomberg's $1.3 billion, because nobody has yet written a cheque that settles what Rare Beauty is worth.
When that deal closed, I was beyond thrilled and it really piqued my interest in the other aspects of business and investing. As for what is next, I have a few things up my sleeve.
I didn't want to really enter the cosmetics world without a mission
I'm not ready. I love what we do and I don't want it to change.
Since the brand's inception, we wanted to find a way to give back to our community and further support people who needed access to mental health services, which have had a profound impact on my life.

Gomez does not disclose her Gopuff stake, and her strongest ventures (Wondermind, Rare Beauty) are companies she co-founded rather than passive holdings. Her broader angel portfolio is thinly documented.
